Who can benefit from Pilates at D.K. BODY BALANCING?
Anyone who is interested in toning up! This includes athletes, business executives, performers/artists, physical fitness/training instructors, pregnant women (pre-and postnatal), seniors, and those interested in preventing osteoporosis, teenagers, those who are overweight, and those who suffer from chronic pain and joint discomfort. Basically this means men and women of any age, at any level of fitness.
I need to lose weight. If I do Pilates, when will I see a difference?
As with any exercise program, cardiovascular work and diet are the biggest factors which will help you loose unwanted weight. Pilates is an excellent way to help you tone up and lean out, and when combined with a healthy diet and regular cardiovascular exercise you will be amazed at how quickly your body will begin to change shape. For quick results, we recommend at least 3-5 Pilates classes per week for noticeable strength training benefits. Because of the gentle strengthening and stretching, 5 times per week is fine. Once you're pleased with the way you look and feel, once or twice a week for maintenance is great!
I want to become pregnant. Can I do Pilates throughout my pregnancy?
Pilates is a great exercise routine for mothers-to-be. We recommend beginning Pilates before you become pregnant, so you body is lean and strong to begin with. Because our exercises are based on and build abdominal strength, and flexibility, it is ideal for you. We'll design a program specifically for you and modify it as needed throughout this special time. By continuing your program post partum it will help you regain a stronger, longer leaner you!
Can I do Pilates, yoga and still go to the gym?
Certainly! Adding Pilates to your routine will only help you in the long run. Because of our attention to abdominal strengthening, flexibility and posture, your yoga poses and holding times will only improve. The gym is an excellent place to maintain your cardio program, although we do offer stationary bicycles and treadmills in a few of our locations. Pilates is different than excercises found in most gyms as Pilates focuses on strengthening the smaller muscles supporting each joint, versus targeting the major muscle groups through weight bearing exercises. Because of our attention to detail regarding your posture and correctness of movement and flexibility, you are less likely to injure yourself, and will definitely notice increased muscle strength and flexibility without adding bulk.
